Festival del Dia de Nuestra Señora del Pilar, Todos Santos:
Festival of Nuestra Señora del Pilar, the patron saint of Todos Santos. This date is celebrated as the founding of the town of Todos Santos. There are usually 5 days of activities, including a fair and live music in the plaza, most of the week of the 12th. There is dancing to live music in the evenings on the zocalo. And lots of food and drink. There is typically a parade of horsemen and a wonderful horse show October 13 and 14. Great time for the whole family.
Our Lady of the Pillar (Spanish: Nuestra Señora del Pilar) is the name given to the Blessed Virgin Mary for her miraculous appearance in Zaragoza, Spain at the time of the emergence of Christianity.
(For the record, we did not see Nuestra Señora del Pilar during our stay, but very much enjoyed Mexican speed-unregulated bumper cars and a shooting arcade game that featured a Yoda-like fellow who peed (water we hope) wildly when a particular target was hit; other water sprays; dancing skeletons; other strange and wonderful Mexican arcade features.
